Pythagorion is a lovely cosmopolitan coastal town situated at the southern coast of the eastern part of the island, some 12 kilometers southern to the town of Samos. The town has been named after Pythagoras, the great ancient philosopher and mathematician. The actual town, extended around the port, has been built on the ruins of the ancient city of Samos. The town counts some 1.400 permanent residents, in their majority occupied in tourism.

Pythagorio is situated at the most touristy developed area of the island and offers excellent tourist facilities and many alternatives for accommodation, both within the town itself and in the broader area. There is also an abundance of traditional taverns and cafés, found everywhere at the scenic squares and in the narrow streets, where you may taste the local cooking and delicacies reminding to the visitor how close the island is to Asia Minor. The visitor will also find numerous alternatives for amusements, where they may enjoy all kinds of music; the younger people will certainly find that amusement and nightlife in Pythagorio is quite hot, and the town is their place-to-be. The settlement has also a well organized market, offering to the visitor all the necessary provisions and services for a comfortable staying.

Access to Pythagorio from the capital town of Samos is pretty easy by public buses with frequent service, by taxi, as well as by rented or private car and motorbikes. If you have a yacht or boat, the port of Pythagorio is available for mooring, both of smaller and of bigger vessels. There is also connection with the town of Kushan’ dasi, at the opposite coast of Turkey.
